Francis Coppola Claret - Wine Review

Francis Coppola Claret - Wine Review

This 2017 Black Label Claret from the Francis Coppola Diamond Collection is one of the most intense red wines I have ever had the pleasure to taste. The Claret has a Cabernet Sauvignon base, and this, coupled with the Bordeaux style used to blend the wine, results in a bold, deep red, perfect for a rich steak dinner, or a dessert of intense chocolate cake. This tasting was not my first time enjoying this Claret, and it certainly won’t be my last.

At first glance, this wine is an extremely deep red. It has an intense scent which lets you know you are in for a treat. The taste is rich, and at once both dry and fruity. It leaves a velvety thickness on the tongue, and the intensity lingers long after you have finished drinking it. It has a heady, intoxicatingly rich flavor which wraps you up in an exceptionally bold experience.

The first time I ever heard of a Claret wine was in an episode of ‘Monk’ in Season 4 titled ‘Mr. Monk Gets Drunk.’ The episode, and the scene with the Claret, was at once suspenseful and reasonably goofy, and it left me with the desire to try a Claret if I ever got the opportunity. I was already a fan of Francis Coppola wines at the time, and when I found the Claret blend, I knew that I had to try it. I absolutely recommend this wine, especially if you enjoy rich, knock-you-off-your-feet reds. Whenever you have the chance, sit down with a rich meal and prepare to be blown away by this excellent choice from the Francis Coppola Diamond Collection.
