Canned Wines - Review of Wines
With long summer days and beautiful weather flourishing in Alaska at the moment, I have been focusing some of my wine shopping time on the best wines to bring along on camping trips, and simply to enjoy outside in a casual setting. With these situations in mind, I turned to canned wines on my last trip to the liquor store. I discovered canned wines several years ago, and over these past few years I have found them to be the perfect wine for any extremely relaxed setting. I have a few personal favorites at this point, and for this review, I decided to pick up a few favorites and a few new wines to try.
Starting with the favorites, I selected two cans from the Union Wine Company Underwood collection, the Pinot Noir and the Pinot Gris. The Pinot Noir is a classic Pinot, with a sharp scent, and deliciously sharp and tangy in flavor, with a hint of somewhat sour berries. Of all of these cans, it is my favorite. The Pinot Gris from Union Wine Co. is a true-to-form Pinot Gris, with a tangy, peachy scent, almost like a cross between white grape juice and sparkling cider. The flavor matches the scent well, tasting of green apples in the most refreshing way. These two wines are some of my favorite canned wines.
The new wines I selected are both from Free Seeker Winery. I selected a Rosé and a Pinot Noir. The Rosé was a refreshing, classic Rosé, with berry undertones in the light scent, carrying into a warm, slightly softer than normal Rosé. The Pinot Noir had a luscious, fruity scent, and a full, slightly oaky flavor, leaning somewhat in the direction of a red blend. Overall, I enjoyed both wines from Free Seeker and I look forward to trying more.
These four wines are an excellent example of how many options there are when it comes to canned wine. If you’re unsure about canned wine, I would recommend starting with one of these and exploring from there. Canned wine can be the perfect option for any occasion where you want to relax and enjoy your wine without any expectations of grandeur. I love drinking canned wine when I just want to sit back and enjoy a simple, well-made wine that can be perfect for any occasion and location.
